There is a difference between feeling attraction and being controlled by it.
I did not understand that distinction for most of my life.
Like a lot of guys, I thought attraction required action.
A glance became pursuit.
Chemistry became fantasy.
Flirtation became escalation.
Even if nothing happened externally, internally the engine started revving.
The mind would go to work.
Possibility. Validation. Dopamine. Performance.
Conquest.
I understand now that much of what men call “chemistry” is actually compulsion.
Recently, something changed in me.
I still notice beautiful women.
I still feel attraction.
I still feel the spark.
But I no longer feel the need to immediately do something with it.
I can let the moment exist.
Smile.
Enjoy the compliment hidden inside the interaction.
Appreciate femininity.
. . .and keep moving.
No suppression. No coldness.
No pretending I’m above desire.
Just. . . containment.
Oddly enough, life feels more electric now than it did when I was actively chasing it.
Women seem to feel the difference.
Most guys either tense up around attraction or lean into it hungrily.
Very few can hold it calmly.
There is a steadiness that emerges in a man when he stops outsourcing his sense of aliveness to erotic pursuit.
And this reaches far beyond dating.
The same man who cannot hold sexual energy without discharging it often cannot hold anger without exploding. . .
. . .ambition without obsession. . . pain without numbing. . . success without arrogance.
Discipline is not becoming numb.
It is developing the capacity to feel deeply without being ruled by every feeling that arrives.
That may be one of the most masculine skills a man can develop.
Not the ability to attract.
The ability to remain himself once attraction arrives.
